Over the weeks I have been volunteering in a classroom two days a week for two hours it has been such a great learning experience for me. Some of the skills I feel like I still need to work is finding my voice in the classroom when it comes to discipline. One of the things I struggle with is being firm especially with one student in particular who has a learning disability. It can be hard to get this student to work on a task and to get them off of their Chromebook. This can be distracting for other students, because then they also want to be on their computers. For this student wording and timing is very important because they can have a temper, but in a classroom, setting seems to be doing better. They have shown tremendous growth over the years and their behavior classes seem to be helping them.

As the weeks go on, I feel more comfortable with the students I’m working and getting to them better. When I leave the class for the day, I usually think about what went well and if there is anything I could do differently next time. If I noticed if something didn’t work then I will change it for next time.

I feel like this quarter has been filled with so much growth as a future educator. Although it has been stressful many times during the quarter, I learned so much. The information I have been learning is things that I can apply to my future classroom rather than just content. Skills like writing assessments, lesson plans, and how to structure the classroom. I think there is still room for improvement on my lesson plans especially differential instruction, and teaching lessons.

Not only have I been learning in my classes, but I have also been volunteering, which has been such a great experience. Not only have I been able to apply what I have learning, but I am also able to see what is actually taught in school. This is helping me think about my lesson plans and what would work and not. Also, I have improved being a guide rather than providing answers for students, by using guiding questions to get students to the answers.
