Over the weeks I have been volunteering in a classroom two days a week for two hours it has been such a great learning experience for me. Some of the skills I feel like I still need to work is finding my voice in the classroom when it comes to discipline. One of the things I struggle with is being firm especially with one student in particular who has a learning disability. It can be hard to get this student to work on a task and to get them off of their Chromebook. This can be distracting for other students, because then they also want to be on their computers. For this student wording and timing is very important because they can have a temper, but in a classroom, setting seems to be doing better. They have shown tremendous growth over the years and their behavior classes seem to be helping them.
As the weeks go on, I feel more comfortable with the students I’m working and getting to them better. When I leave the class for the day, I usually think about what went well and if there is anything I could do differently next time. If I noticed if something didn’t work then I will change it for next time.
