When I was in school, common core wasn’t really a thing until I was in Junior High, but I remember hearing many complaints about it on the Elementary level. In Elementary school I remember school really low on a section of reading in my progress report. The main problem was our standards were vague with just a number and the concept that’s it. When my mom asked me about it, I wasn’t too sure what work was done with that standard and what it meant, but it caused me a lot of stress. Back then I would have wished standards were more thorough and explained what each task was that way I could know what I needed to improve on. I feel like Common Core allows the country to be on a similar page and should have students meeting the standards, by the end of the year. However, there is still some variability with what content is being taught for the standard and not all subjects use the Common core. The Common Core is the step in the right direction, by making sure all students have learned the set standards, by the end of year. Yet, our students are still struggling in school especially the core content areas such as reading, writing, and math.   Raise national education standards - Opinion - The Jakarta Post

The learning standards provide a baseline of what students should know from the previous year and what needs to be achieved the year I have them. I like that the standards provide goals that need to be achieved, but still allow a lot of freedom when writing lesson plans. One of the reasons I like the Common Core is that it is trying to achieve similarity in the classroom through the nation, not just the district. This really helps with students that move around a lot they are less likely to fall behind, because they have been learning the same standards.

When deconstructing standards, it helped me make more sense of what they were trying to say. I feel like math standards are a little trickier to deconstruct than some of the other content areas. By breaking apart, the standard, it definitely helps with other areas of a lesson plan, like prior knowledge, learning targets, and what students should be assessed on.
